Help is here! Cross disciplinary district teams will have the opportunity to participate in a highly interactive Data Analysis Protocol Workshop presented by Wendy Zdeb, Ed.S., Executive Director of the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP).

AP Computer Science Principles Opportunity for Michigan High School Teachers

Kent ISD EdTech Blog

The Michigan Mathematics and Science Center Network (MMSCN), through a grant with Code.org, is pleased to announce a professional learning opportunity to support AP Computer Science Principles.

The grant will provide local schools with the following:

  • Resources for teaching AP CSP in the fall of 2017
  • A Sample AP CSP Course Audit
  • Professional Learning for 60 teachers throughout Michigan at no cost (Stipends for teachers are not included.)
  • A curriculum from Code.org for the AP CSP Course

Schools interested in taking advantage of this opportunity will be expected to have an AP CSP course on their school schedule for Fall, 2017.

Schools wanting more information on how to take advantage of this opportunity can visit our Michigan website at www.micoding.weebly.com. At this site, teachers who plan to apply should sign up to receive an application. Applications will be available in January.

Will ESSA Impact You? Yes!

“With this bill, we reaffirm that fundamentally American ideal—that every child, regardless of race, income, background, the zip code where they live, deserves the chance to make of their lives what they will.” — President Barack Obama

New Education Law

In 2002, No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) was put into effect to help educators identify when students were making progress and recognize when they needed additional supports without discriminating based on race, income, language, etc.  Over time, we found this act was not helping us all reach the goals of fully preparing all students for success in college and careers.

On December 10, 2015 President Obama signed the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).  This new law reauthorizes the 50 year old Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), which is a national law that gives equal opportunity to all students. The new law will build upon NCLB and ESEA to fully prepare ALL students for success in college and careers.

But the real question is, how will these changes impact us as teachers, administrators and students? And exactly how will it impact the classrooms and schools? Continue reading Will ESSA Impact You? Yes!

The TRIG Best Practice Apple Professional Learning Grant has been created to assist schools wishing to pursue professional learning opportunities for educators who are transforming their digital learning environments.

The grant is open to schools/districts that are executing planned, learning environments and wish to enhance and create a culture of learning. Eligible Districts must have purchased from the TRIG Apple Device Purchasing Agreement within the past 4 years and have regular and consistent student access to Apple technology.
